MUSIC TEACHER BRIAN HOWARD SELECTED FOR NAIS "TEACHERS OF THE FUTURE" PROGRAM

Moorestown Friends School music teacher Brian Howard of Cherry Hill has been selected for the Teachers of the Future program of the National Association of Independent Schools (NAIS). NAIS has chosen 25 innovative teachers to help develop a new online community for independent school teachers.

“I will be monitoring an online discussion of the use of current technology in teaching music, said Howard. “My job will be to seed the discussions with topics and provocative questions and to provide resources for educators to explore the integration of technology in their teaching. “

Each of the 25 teachers selected will receive a $1,000 stipend and will be expected to: 1) lead an NAIS online educational discussion forum throughout the 2008-09 school year, and 2) create a demonstration teaching unit video to be posted on NAIS's online independent school community and “TeacherTube.”

“I plan to share things that have worked well for me,” said Howard. “After using cutting-edge technology in my music teaching for 23 years that required a steep learning curve, I am thrilled about the current availability of intuitive technology.”

According to the NAIS website, the Teachers of the Future program is designed to let teachers distinguish themselves as leaders. They can advance independent school education by spurring discussion and idea-sharing about innovation in teaching and learning.
