"A Commitment to Excellence"

Dear MFS parents,

It is the time of the year when we hear news about destination colleges and universities for our graduating class. While things are not yet settled for a handful of students, the Class of 2010 has already enrolled at an impressive and diverse array of colleges and universities, including:  Amherst, Barnard, Brandeis, Columbia, Duke, Harvard, Oberlin, Penn, Princeton, Smith, Wesleyan, and Yale.…and the list goes on and on with many other high-quality institutions.

Our college list is a tribute to our students’ ability and hard work.  Truly, they are Great Kids, Going Places.  The list is also a tribute to our teachers, from Preschool through 12th grade.  We regularly receive feedback from recent graduates that they feel well prepared for college.  Our program, which combines academic rigor with spiritual and ethical education, enables our graduates to manage not only their time and energy, but to sustain their values, even in the whirlwind of college life.

We have a reminder of the importance of excellent teaching in the constant news regarding public school budgets and the difficult decisions facing school districts forced to make cuts to staff, academic programs and extracurricular activities. On a daily basis, I hear from parents and colleagues about the rancor currently present in so many New Jersey schools and towns.  By no means is MFS immune to the current difficult financial times, but we have done everything within our power to maintain current programs, both in and out of the classrooms. As we prepare for our 225th year, I thank you for your commitment to your child’s education and to MFS.

Please enjoy this wonderful time of the year.

Warm Regards,
